Hemlock Comatose (Morte)

Rise the night’s droplets

Streaming panes of westward flight

The dawn a red flare in the umbrage

With you I slept

Careless for tomorrow

With you my light did pierce

The dark hold of slumber

And usher the overlook the hidden paths

The rabbits that cleaved for white fur

’Las all was blushed in black

Except for you

The golden edge of the purest light

Captivated my errant wanderings

And held dear their course

To blissful end

A messenger from darker paintings past

Meandering the streaks of light washed space

The kingdom of clouds will reign

And coarse decree would sever beauty

Her gestalt oppressor

Your majesty a matriarch

Rest the deconstructive tendency

Where naught is left to spin

And hold the cobalt sky

Thy epitome

Again the fog descended

And the history was a strong rye

Absinthe tint

And it disappeared on ghosted mezzanine

From which the piano once had played itself

Had once composed of dreams

Laid upon the dusty shelves of afterthought

Now just washed

Openly discreet the light was sharp

It punctured the shadows

Their orbs of dark energy

To cake the running waters

In bashful hints of smoke

She lit a cigarette to spark disgust

Though the rolled papier

It tingled like a flake of bliss

Flittering in the ballet of devilish class

And haughty intoxication

Steeps the whiskey breath in arrogance

Rivers that carve out the deep valleys of solitude

An eastern unity approached in layered tiers

On the western descent

To the harsh and swirling abolition of reason

To its blithe reconstitution

Follows the fearful high

Skim above the eddies where the river is a trap

As the shadows move the light of day

To cling to that which bears

And only you were in my mind

To keep the air anew

As the balletic aura discounted history

For the golden city was pure

The river striated by the greater swathe of time

The derivative of motion

Fall the day’s parchments

To a feast owls screeching of the night

And there was you to keep the light disclosed

All the shifting and the rain

Held clear

Held trusting

The old haunts of the West

An ontological stalking ground

Feasting on the sinews of former tapestries

Looming in the walls the alley the hemlock imbibed as sacrament

And where the darker painting had been hung

Take your time a suspended death

Now washed out and over in vibrant color

In new life the morning star’s trinity

A light that fell for the evening chime

The twinkle of the hooded owl’s eye

She took long drags in the intersection of worlds

Deep rifts of time and place

Closed with the still of impotency

The devils passed into the esteem

Of a new Bohemian night

The maroon netherworld that touched the cobalt sky

In clean approach to appellant sin

The spheres are silent in the end

Movement to movement a lagging breeze

Drawn out the intellect its vagrant gaps

All fallen on the deaf ears of a glass figurine

Demystifying of the shrieking muse

Writing my body into the night

Became a foreigner to me

And there was you a new light to burn

’Las the light was much more pleasant

In its soft warmth than its aging fire

And this soft light would I to cling to

To hold my humble ruse

Beg hold the light

Even it’s unbearable

The vessel howled as it plunged

The bottomless tunnel

Even desperate it’s infinity

Sought laden rest in the black recesses

The clean light slanting and fading

The posthumous evening fog

Evanescing out thy time distraught

And parched transitionless sleep

Gentle time was naught thy clockwork heart

Racing for the close the dawn of black

Remembering the open shine

Willows of curtains bellowing the shafts of remnant

Hold your essence into onset void

And nightless sky a darker cobalt

Preserving what aura beauty singed the day

Would hold dear unto the hastening red dawn

A rapture was your thought

I kissed the born of shadows’ density

Aloft the falling skies

Colors’ grade the streets of days’ last ending

One long night bereft

Except that you would I be holding

Rejuvenating the spirit of its sugars

The blood of oranges a glucose meme

On roads that wound the tree of life

Out from concrete reality

The harsh wall of abstracting season

Dear logic the attorney of reason

Incorporating an intangible existence

In the communal opposition of the spirit

Resisting the gravity of cold truths

That left no space for lullabies of enlightenment

Sleeping on an age

Which in its farthest reaches

Destructured humanity its natural essence

And left us to roam the locus of desire

Quite absent of its impetus

Quite bereft of astral derivative

’Tis always quiet coming down

And still in the wandering dissension

There was you to cling to

And that it was my folding

To turn my eyes to sea

And seek the other shore

In this very life we’re holding

In this abyss we’re seen

Beauty the betrayal of appearance

Taking precedence of becoming

A cobalt dream

Gestalt the murmuring

Hollow the shells of evil

It was a relished scene

And you were humming

And the empty streets still dead of dreaming

Clung to the sin like fat tissue

Can you hold the light forbear disclosing?

Reveal the darker shade

In the cloak of hollow shame

The guilt of ages not one’s own

Yet forced to hear the drumming

Dancing on the waters of refracted time

A great gap sprung open

For the truth was far more dense

Than time had ever shown her humming

Sleep little child

Life is but a dream we’re running

And the walls were closing in

Except that you were on the podium

Except that you were speaking of the age

Fearless of becoming

The new film of skin on the grit scars

Of western history

The heart would keep on drumming

A perfect slip into the long of night

What shadow were you courting?

And what ether would sooth my aching hips

Still in the auras of potent blunts?

The music grazed off her lips

A prolific silhouette against the blinding white

The reflections of a cobalt star

Wrapped in the lingering haze of departure

The West was fading on the run

A wild dream it was

And only to you was I now coming

My carrier across the delving rift

Sheer time save face

The fjord was a rupture on the coast

The other shore was lunging out to sea

To capture me

Bring me you still sunning

Beneath cobalt skies and desire

And I thank you for the humming

It was a steady light this fire

Across the night I’m burning

The dark orbs a light simmer of perfection

Stained emerald suns

That had set through the fog

Condensed upon the close of history

And you were a clean shine

My instinct was a tracing to

The papier crumpled and ashed like a flake of nothing

The shards transparent like a sheet of ice

In a flight of dreams that I was skating on

Gazing on your sky

And sunning
Caught the rise of the East

Outside my curtains’ fantasies

There expected a splendid evening harbour

Chameleon’s Enlightenment

Summon the devil’s advocate

Trilling the pronunciation of arrogance

Across the treble throbbing a lust

Resounding in thy temple

A pounding thrust

Sleepless dawn

A bellowing

Dance with the bells

At the morning star arising

O’er the doll house of God

An ecstasy in the shattered church of industry

A Roman Catholic materialism

The haunts of the angels incarnate

In the glass and concrete rises

Disrobed in a legalese

Stirring thy emotions

To perch on the vault of perfection

Like a gymnast on the bar

The grip of the divinity was throbbing in thy temples

Enveloping what silence had achieved

The quiet change of hues

A chameleon’s enlightenment

Perched yes on an iron stake

A solid hold for the peaceful samurai

Staving off the watchful eyes of the jungle

In the moral glass of pretension

The gestured airs of intellectual class

Fallow in the contrivance of thy etiquette

The poise of a swan’s necking

At the craving for the sinews of the kill

Sunken teeth the limp tendons

The blood that gives you all you wear

In such devilish apprehension

Groomed like poodles let to the forest of mind

The wild of contemporary cutlery

Such organization of human strain

In corporate reflection

The antagonist to freedom

Yes corporate culture is the antagonist

By which we are obliged to create discreetly

Parva stella,

Your absence fed my fortitude

Raised the walls of my joyous shallow

Now in the summer you might find me smiling

’Las the cold would I to stay in

Huddled and alone

That no one could wonder

Why I wouldn’t stop to say hello

And that my skin would not flake and dry

From all the aimless wind

Shaking the dead bolted doors

Off their shabby hinges

Letting in the sun

Remember it is silence changes hues

For the chameleons and their blessed

Fulfillment of the manic retention

Would hold us to our cross

And wary introspection

Would keep us to the jungle thick

Forging step by delicate step

And aware of the jaded eyes in the shadows

Going nowhere yet peeling off the skin

Of thy fresh pressed historicity

Leaving nothing to sustain

The moisture of thy sexuality

Which sharpens thy pose

Straight back

And the curving of the spine

To the clitoral trills of the violin

Like the craning of the swan’s neck

Having feasted on the fox

An elegance wrought with cunning

Dancing on the stand of night

Yes to moisten the thoughts of mourning

Bring tears to the lost wilderness

Displayed at its death an object of intrigue

Of lusting

Splayed like some aging aesthetic

Still wandering alone

In the forests of its home

Doomed to be forgotten

Even by the Son

In all His divine preeminence

Sleep ragged lust and wild

You’ll need your reserves

For your crucifixion in the gallery

A painting décor on the walls

Of some historic preservation

To grant the chameleon its emptiness

Disrobe thy absent spirit

Of its hooded etiquette

And breathe in heavy anticipation

Stroking and stroking the abyss

The Open Art Exhibition Now Online and Ready to View

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is pleased to announce that its October 2012 art exhibition is now posted on their website and is ready to view online. The subject for this art exhibition is “Open” (No Theme) and artists were asked to submit their best representational and non-representational art.

An art competition was held in September 2012 which determined and judged the art for this exhibition. The gallery received submissions from 18 different countries from around the world and they also received entries from 32 different states. Overall, there were 654 entries from 188 different artists that were judged for this art competition.

Congratulations to the artists who have been designated as this month’s category winners, along with the winning Special Recognition artists. The gallery commends all of the winning artists for their artistic skill and their creativity, as this online art exhibition is indicative of their creativity.

1 Op Collective has their eye on JULIE PAMKOWSKI. Here are some examples of her work:

Q. Tell us about your work.

A. My work explores the female body as a functional, sexual, psychological and political space. My fleshy, feminine sculptures are influenced by universal experiences shared by women, the demented standard of beauty in our culture and the absurd political climate we are currently experiencing. The sculptures metaphorically embody an internal dialogue that is immensely complex and disturbing, yet quietly seductive and convincing.

I refer to my latest work as “The Seamores”. They are a league of female sea creatures and I am absolutely obsessed with creating them. It is very strange and exciting territory that I am currently working out. Stay tuned to see how they develop!

Q. What advice do you have for your peers?

A. The most boiled down advice I could give is to stay curious, make yourself uncomfortable, figure out what it is you love & never stop doing it. Pushing personal boundaries while balancing happiness is the most sustainable art practice in my opinion.

Spotlight Artist: Monica Bill Hughes

Q. Tell us about your work.

A. My work is about conflict and construction. I have been looking at anatomical/ internal structures for quite a while. The conflict, for me, is embedded in a fascination of what is within humans physically versus what is on the exterior. Anatomy books isolate these complex structures whose functions depend on what is around them. But when that image of a liver or the intestine is in this book all on it’s own surrounded by white, it’s removed from the original context, i.e. the body. So this confusion occurs. My process mirrors this: I extract visual information and disintegrate it by recombining them with other sources. My process generates complication rather than resolution. It is digestive. I am really love the parallels; the way we digest information in such a similar fashion to how our bodies break down food and nutrients.

Q. What advice do you have for your peers?

A. I think the most important thing I have found so far is just to surround yourself with lots of other artists. People to keep you motivated and questioning your work really intensely. A community of people to bounce ideas off of or to go have a beer with… And of course: be in the studio. Make things.

About the Artist:

I am both attracted and repulsed by popular culture. In an effort to redefine images found in mainstream culture, I meticulously redraw the objects that I find while perusing newsstands and websites. The resulting interpretation is an amalgamation of popular images drawn with an impulsive mark.

In my recent series of Celebrity Self-Portraits, I am creating a body of work based on the notion of fusing my identity into celebrity counterparts (“doppelgangers”) through the act of drawing. While working, I try to approach my subject with a sense of humor and curiosity. I seek a playful intermingling of elements, from perfect hairstyles to Tater Tots and anatomical structures. The American obsession with celebrity culture is both disturbing and sentimental in nature. Yet, I am ultimately approaching my subject from a woman’s perspective, thus an overhaul of my own identity as such, is another part of this process. My work involves a skewed perception of living inside of one’s own body while simultaneously being preoccupied with a culture that is out of reach and out of touch with reality.

My Ineffable, A Web in the Basement of Dreams

I left my heart in the flashing lights

Where we danced like spiders

In the basement of dreams

Crawling along the silken strands

In mellifluous emulsion

It touched so close my solitude was not my own

And the proximity piqued my reserve

Deferring questions

I had walked right through my company

Like they were afterthoughts

Before we’d exchanged greetings and parted ways

Sunrise

The next day the squander of time was the best medicine

To sit alone and wonder if the world

Has forgotten thee this time around

Looking over thy shoulder

Towards infinity

Arid moments were abundant in those afterthoughts

Though flames of white candles singed the dust away

I felt it coming on

The time was spacious in its relaxation

It let everything go this once

Even moving forward

It let everything cave in theory

And found happiness

To build the palace was now a delicacy

The haunts of the ghetto were watching again

They saw something cold

Helpless

Prepared to die at any moment

Should the western truth at last congeal

And murmur its departure

From its absurd grope for life

The weight was a transcendence of itself

In thoughtless abstraction

And there was a rush moving

In the energy of natural devotion

Rest in Peace, My Ineffable

The tug of the other shore

Had stretched me thin

And I carried the weight of industry home

From the higher planes of cognizance

Fleshing along the stagnant reeds

In a veil of minimalism

Induced by an excess of waste

As the western prestige

In aspiration

Had shipped the fronts of globalized affairs to the east

Where reason became a binary code

Foreign to the western enlightenment

Now having learned to let go

And settle in ambiguity

Always waiting to see what unfolds

It was August on the western front

And the other shore had stolen away

Dreams became as evasive

As those Himalayan mountain summits

The intellect longs to dwell upon

If only for a moment of purity

If only for a sharper decay

That fed the soul with a simplicity

Such the withering of the body

In chemical trace

Could be held in disregard

Insofar as the perpetuation of things

Drove the division of sides

Offshore we speak in tongues

Discarding of the record

Lives on paper undone

And there was a wedge ’tween the parts we played

And the weight of industry had settled it in

But by force of reason

We cut through the haze

And we were casting the division of the spirit

My Ineffable, In Search of Dreams

The molten glass apple seeped along

The darkening of dreams that wander stoned

Begging the everlasting stars to be reformed

’Las the dreams are empty in the middle of the night

And the ticks of time kept falling to the floor

Of a clockwork stairwell

Towards the bellowing heights

Where those vivid dreams that live

For the godless sky

Had closed their doors preemptively

With a deadbolt that should warn

The nocturne’s seeker

To never shy in thy intrusive meanderings

Rather step with tact

On the floor of the cathedral

To the banal rhythm of a mocking bird’s prayer

That sung the shells of all his brethren

Whilst drenched in their blood

Whispering of an ocean somewhere in the depths of love

A mountainous submerged contention

Staring at the walls composed thy scenery

For argumentative sake’

A mere conceptual imposition

And they the dreamers rose to catch the moment

In the dust of their empty hands

Kneeling under the weight of their faith

And reaching desperate for the sanctuary of reason

To wash like a river

The desert sands to whitened chalk

I must have been dreaming

As I marched along to the pace of orange elephants

Setting to flame the steeple of rationality

And the bellowed effect

Of the bells that burned their somber chime

Caught the hedgerows of the garden

Contrived of the language

That sought to undermine its own creation

The objective betrayal of the human creator

By the hands of a formulaic essence

Could no longer hold to the dogma of its mathematic

But wandered into irrationality

Climbing the stairwell to the underground

And listening to the stares of ghosts that dwelled

In the parched shatter of a church of industry

A perch for the vultures to land

And hunt the raw fibers

Of the black night below

Where the dreams were empty glasses

In the shimmers of the stars

And the sacrament it flowed

In the veins of shards

Which lay to covering the motive

Having lost the shine of a reason to dream

Which lay broken

Waiting on the sun to warm the dark

And bear a light wave of reformation

Spotlight Artist: Dawn Breeze

Q. Tell us about your work.

A. I am a process artist, moving freely between disciplines, I collaborate with chance, the environment & impermanence. These pieces were created in Iceland, using found organic materials. These paintings were painted outdoors. Each piece was painted with the available materials of that site. The paintings are aprox 40″ x 52″ on raw unstreched canvas. The two framed pieces are made with found plastic and raw minerals.

Q. What advice do you have for your peers?

A. To make honest work, create fearlessly from the heart. Art is essential to the well being of humanity, it must be made intentionally for truth-not commerce.

A. Q. Tell us about your work.

A. I am interested in Big Ideas.

Even as I write this I’m not totally certain what a “Big Idea” is or why I might categorize something that way. Reactionary ideas are not necessarily good ideas. I think though, at this time, in this place, in this art place, and among such understanding company this is the conversation that generates.
The works I’ve included span 4 years. 4 years is and isn’t a very short period of time. One can pass from their late 20′s to their early 30′s, from middle age to seniority, and from life to death.
These works traverse a similar discontinuity of presences.
What follows is a working list of big ideas. Please feel free to imagine what you might add or subtract from your list.

love
faith, god, God, spirituality, phenomenology, metaphysics, and on
death
time, memory, trauma, myth
family, the elderly and a few related, somewhat more precise, but still large ideas
anthropomorphism
anthropocentrism
animacy and agency
identity and authenticity

Q. What advice do you have for your peers?

A. If there’s anything I could advise other artists on it would be this simple request: Support other artists; artists you believe in, artists you respect, artists you feel are impactful.
Exercise your affectivity.
Share yourself with people and your network ultimately become those that you feel close to.

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Calway-Fagen received his BFA from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, an MFA from University of California in San Diego, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Q. Tell us about your work.

A. The world around me pulses with the noise of wit and perpetual salesmanship. This makes me anxious. My heart races; My pallor changes; Sensory hierarchies dissolve; Blood rushes to my ears, making both the visual and the auditory elements of my surroundings seem somehow louder.

I make paintings and drawings that evoke this sensation of disquiet. Shifting, agitated patterns and textures generate a bristling, buzzing surface through which people, objects, and spaces alternately emerge and retreat. The colors are acidic, and engage in active, deliberate discord, inducing a state of comprehensive unease that is felt in all parts of the image. The paint possesses a quality of resting just on the surface of the canvas, allowing little rest for the eye as it searches for a clear point of entry or departure.

My paintings and drawings have an underlying armature of paint that weaves into what are usually figures in an interior. There is an overlapping of pattern, line and form. This, combined with the ever-shifting, and at times, painfully bright colors, creates an aggressive and antagonistic environment wherein the elements of figure, object, and space – typically separated by linguistic categorization – encroach into each other’s territory.

Though the initial references are personal and historical photographs, my work is not about nostalgia, nor is it meant to divulge specific narratives. I use a language of pattern and color to erase the identities of the individuals in each image. The figures hide in plain sight, swallowed up by the chaos and tension of their surroundings.

Q. What advice do you have for your peers?

A. Just keep making things. Occasionally, talk to other artists, and art-engaged people about the things you’re making. Look at, appreciate, and enjoy art that’s different from your own. If you can, travel. Or, just go for a walk with your eyes and ears open.

Q. Tell us about your work.

A. My work is very much a personal manifestation. I work mostly from memory and rely upon gesture to begin the process. in doing so, the intangible and vague images from my head begin to emerge on the canvas. I have found, otherwise, trying to pursue a single image from the flurry of weightless ideas is absolutely impossible. Each painting is a process of simplification, and is evidence of my affection for historical painting. There is no direct narratives or certain identity, but rather notions that help the viewer to create their own embodiment and experience with the work.

Q. What advice do you have for your peers?

A. We are all over exposed to so much in our lives nowadays, it’s tricky to find out who you really are and what you are trying to achieve in your work. Although eventually everything we see gets filtered into our own personality, it’s important to take the time to isolate yourself and see what comes from it. Otherwise, we are just trying to be too many different people. Your work will stand out regardless no matter if what you discover about yourself has already been done similarly, as each one of us has our own truly unique handprint. And just like with handprints, sometimes you might not instantly notice the difference, but once you get up close you realize the intricacy of the individual.

The Botanicals Art Exhibition Now Online and Ready to View

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is pleased to announce that its September 2012 art exhibition is now posted on their website and is ready to view online. The theme for this art exhibition is “Botanicals” and artists were asked to apply to this competition in August by submitting their best botanical and floral art.

An art competition was held in August 2012 which determined and judged the art for this exhibition. The gallery received submissions from 14 different countries from around the world and they also received entries from 29 different states. Overall, there were 619 entries from 177 different artists that were judged for this art competition.

A. The works posted here are works in the development of a bigger idea. My interests in the portrait is a journey and search of an ideal beauty and esthetics as we today as a society seem to have this preoccupation with. The color palette and and hyper state of orgasmic pleasure the faces find themselves in a party state is a direct reflection of our society in America. The larger painting I’m producing culminates this idea as it puts all the characters together in their own world of pleasure avoiding the threats of the material world we live, WAR.!
